Catania airport/Etna: air space reopened this morning after eruption

(WAPA) - "Fontanarossa. Ash emission by Etna ended. None limitation to traffic by airplane": this is the latest news of one hour ago appeared on the website of SAC, Catania's airport management society.

The air space of the Catania-Fontanarossa International Airport has been reopened at 7am after the closure of yesterday at 10pm, following to the new eruption phase by Etna. The task-force, gathered at the dawn of today, has decided to limit the arriving flights for the moment to five movements per hour. Regular departures and possible delays. The closure of the air space has involved six re-directions on Lamezia Terme and one on Palermo; five scheduled and five cargo connections cancelled. It's necessary to remember passengers that can have information about flights through airline, or in real time, on website (www.aeroporto.catania.it).

The air space of the air station, closed for precautionary at around of 10pm of yesterday, has not operating until 6:00 of this morning. The task force had decided so yesterday after the meeting at 10pm and after the Ingv (Italian Institute of Geophysical and Volcanology) had announced a new eruption phase by Etna with lava, a small flow from crater of South-East and emission of volcanic ash that hadn't polluted the airport area.
