Eurofighter airplane crashes in Spain - VIDEO
Albacete, Spain - The aircraft was returning to the military base after a parade
(WAPA) - An Eurofighter EF-2000 of the Spanish Air Force fell today at about 12:07 near the Los Llanos military base of Albacete in Spain. The airplane had participated in the air show that took place this morning in Madrid for the National Day of October 12 and -on its way back- was approaching the runway.
The reasons of the accident are still unknown; Spanish ministerial sources confirmed the death of the pilot, who was not able to eject before hitting the ground. Part of the local press higlighted the heroic behaviour of the captain: he would have remained in his seat to preventing that the airplane fell on the "La pulgosa" park nearby -that at the time was crowded with children and families- and heading instead the airplane toward a field between the park and the base.
On September 24 another Eurofighter Typhoon -belonging however to AMI (Aeronautica Militare Italiana, the Italian Air Force) crashed into the sea during an air show in front of the beaches of Terracina (Italia) killing the pilot (for further details also see AVIONEWS).
