Washington Airport: tomorrow simulated aircraft disaster

To ensure readiness for major emergency response at Dulles

Media are invited to cover the airport emergency exercise at Washington-Dulles International Airport tomorrow, on May 5, 2018, where they will be able to view drill staging (including simulated injury application) as well as simulated aircraft fire suppression and mass victim triage, treatment and transport. 

During the exercise, smoke, participants with mock injuries and a large number of emergency response vehicles may be visible to passengers and the public. Activities will be concentrated on the south side of the airfield in a controlled area near Runway 01R / 19L. 

The airport triennial full-scale, mass casualty emergency exercise begins at 9:00 am, event concludes at 11:30 am. It will take place at Washington Dulles International Airport, Gate 313 on the south side of the airport.

The parts involved in it: Airports Authority Fire and Rescue, Police, Public Affairs and Emergency Management teams; Dulles International Airport Operations; Federal agencies including the FAA, CBP and TSA; Local fire and rescue teams from Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria; area hospitals; airline partners including British Airways, Lufthansa, ANA and United; and community partners including the Red Cross, Fairfax County Community Emergency Response Team and Fairfax County Medical Reserve Corps.

The highlights are:

An aircraft crash at the airport
Aircraft fire suppression and site stabilization
Mass casualty triage, treatment and transport to local hospitals
Coordination with and response of regional mutual aid partners on airport property
Survivor reunification with family and friends.
