China, yes to Korean-Asiana airlines merger

The creation of a sky giant in Seoul has overcome another hurdle

China's trade ministry has approved the merger between South Korean carriers Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. The creation of a giant of the skies in Seoul has therefore overcome another obstacle. In fact, the antitrust authorities of various countries in which the two companies operate are assessing the possible impact on competition. The green light has already arrived from the United States, Japan and the European Union.

The merger is still awaiting final approval from the UK. The British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has evaluated and accepted the corrections presented by Korean Air, but at the moment it has to collect the opinions of the market before giving an official approval. Others have to pronounce, among them: Turkey, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. Green light also from Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, where validation is not mandatory.
