Air strike in Germany

Many flights canceled at Duesseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports

Air travel disruptions in Germany. Most flight connections at Duesseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports were cancelled today due to a 24-hour strike called by the Verdi union. The inconvenience also affects other sectors such as local transport, schools (nurseries) and public administration (offices).

At noon today, only 89 of the 330 scheduled flights were operated at the Düsseldorf airport, while 29 were diverted to other airports, finally 7 were delayed to the following day. As regards the Cologne-Bonn airport, the management company announced that out of 136 daily flights scheduled today, only two were carried out as planned.

This is yet another black day for air transport. The mobilization comes about ten days after the last protest. The unions thus urge the resumption of negotiations on collective bargaining for ground service airport personnel (public sector, security personnel), for which they are asking for wages 10.5% higher, equal to at least 500 euros per month. Employers have so far offered a total raise of 5%.
