AVIONEWS at the ITA Airways-Lufthansa Group conference

Full integration and growth expected in two years - VIDEO

A press conference was held today with the top management of ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group. ITA was represented by its President, Sandro Pappalardo, CEO Joerg Eberhart, and board members; Lufthansa was joined by Group CEO, Carsten Spohr.

The meeting was an opportunity to officially celebrate the entry –which took place the last January- of the Italian-flag airline into the German Group. During the conference, the commercial innovations that will arise from the merger of the two groups were illustrated. First concrete steps that aim to be improvements for customers, such as the new partnership between the loyalty programme of ITA Airways and that of the Lufthansa Group, allowing them to accumulate points and use them for both airlines.

From the start of the Summer flight season, scheduled for 30 March 2025, there will be additional benefits for passengers, such as lounge access, ITA's use of two Lufthansa terminals at Frankfurt and Munich airports, and new code-sharing agreements between the two carriers, allowing passengers to combine flights operated by carriers from both Groups and opening up routes to more than 250 Lufthansa Group destinations for ITA customers.

During the meeting, the details of the exit from the SkyTeam alliance, which will end on 30 April 2025, were announced. Speakers at the conference spoked of the great synergy with which the staff of both group are working. Already in the coming weeks ITA Airways will begin the process of joining the Star Alliance, which will end at the beginning of 2026 and will represent the largest global alliance in the aviation world.
