Venice Film Festival, security plan ready: enhanced surveillance at the Lido
The prefect defines the security plan, with special measures for the airspace and maritime domain to safeguard the event

The lagoon city is preparing to experience the sparkling atmosphere of its most celebrated festival. The 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival, scheduled from August 27 to September 6, will feature a strengthened security apparatus, with the aim of safely welcoming the thousands of visitors, filmmakers, and celebrities expected on the Lido.
After a meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, chaired by Prefect Darco Pellos, a detailed plan for managing the event was finalized. An in-depth scenario analysis led to the definition of a surveillance system that will span the entire duration of the event, with particular attention to the most sensitive areas. Law enforcement, in close cooperation with the local police, will ensure a reinforced presence, monitoring the access points to the island, high-traffic areas and screening venues. Special measures have also been approved for the area surrounding the Festival.
Airspace and waters off-limits: special control including drones
The security of the Film Festival is not limited to the land. To prevent any external risk and ensure a secure perimeter around the event area, the competent authorities have issued specific orders to interdict the airspace and adjacent waters. The Coast Guard has demarcated a maritime area closed to navigation, while the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) has declared the airspace over the event a "no-fly zone", barring the transit of unauthorized aircraft. Particular attention has been paid to the issue of drones: their unauthorized operation is strictly prohibited and law enforcement will implement an aerial monitoring and control system to intercept and neutralize any threats posed by these devices, to protect the public and those working at the event.
The plan also takes into account possible contingencies due to environmental factors. In the event of adverse weather conditions, emergency measures are already foreseen and ready for use to safeguard the safety of all participants and staff. The entire apparatus, described by the Committee as "proven yet flexible", is designed to allow one of the world’s most important film events to take place smoothly and in complete safety.
