Ancona Airport: Giorgio Buffa is the new chief executive officer

A career between the sky and management, today at the helm of the "Sanzio" for the phase of consolidation and territorial continuity

Ancona International Airport has a new CEO and general manager: he is Giorgio Buffa, whose appointment was approved yesterday, 14 October 2025, by the Board of Directors of the managing company. The formal ratification of the new leadership is expected at the shareholders’ meeting convened for tomorrow, Thursday 16 October, at 4:00pm. Buffa succeeds Alexander D'Orsogna, who left the post last June to take up the position of director general of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) -see AVIONEWS-.

The newly appointed CEO brings with him two decades of experience in the sector, including the last nine years at Hamad International Airport in Doha (Qatar), where he served as Senior Operations Manager, contributing to the operational excellence and sustainable development of the repeatedly award-winning airport. Of Sicilian origin and from a family living in Siena, Buffa began his aviation career in 2008 as a pilot for carriers such as Air One and Alitalia, then moved into airport management from 2010 onward, with significant experience at the Trapani airport. His decision to take on the challenge of the "Raffaello Sanzio" airport in Falconara is also linked to his desire to be closer to his family in Italy.

The new leader arrives at a crucial moment for the Marche infrastructure. Among the priorities on the manager’s agenda, identified by the Njord Partners fund which leads the company, is the correct start-up and operation of the new course of territorial continuity, whose operational launch is expected from next 3 November.

Buffa inherits the positive momentum set by the previous management, which saw Ancona airport achieve significant results in terms of passenger and cargo traffic. The objective is to consolidate the strategic role of the airport, also with an eye to future transformation and expansion projects –including the creation of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub, a Vertiport for vertical take-off and landing flights and a Spaceport for suborbital flights– which aim to position the airport as an hub of logistics and transport at the cutting edge in Italy and Europe.
