Aeroitalia takes over from Lumiwings at Foggia's "Gino Lisa" to ensure air connections

Cancellations and passengers stranded on the ground are only a memory: now work is underway on schedules, fleet and restoring trust.

It’s official: from November 1 the management of connections from Foggia’s "Gino Lisa" will move from Lumiwings to Aeroitalia. The Italian private carrier founded in 2022 and ranked second in the shortlist of the expression of interest launched by the airport authority steps in to ensure the operational continuity of the airport. The takeover safeguards already scheduled air links to Milan and Turin and provides for the introduction of a third route, strengthening regional connectivity and reducing the risk of service gaps for passengers and local operators.

On the commercial and operational side, the choice favors a carrier with national capital and compliance procedures to stabilize the network. The prospect of the Apulian entrepreneur Daniele Azzarone entering Lumiwings’ shareholding —who would have had to acquire the troubled Greek airline— has instead fallen through. In recent days the carrier’s financial crisis had surfaced with delays in payments to suppliers: some routes were cancelled and about sixty passengers were left stranded, causing disruption and a significant reputational impact.

The changeover now aims to restore operational regularity and stakeholder confidence: in the coming days details on schedules, aircraft to be used and procedures for handling passengers affected by the cancellations will be clarified.
