Panic on easyJet flight: passenger stops plane with bomb threat and threats against Trump

Emergency landing in Glasgow for the A-319. Passengers intervene to restrain the man/VIDEO

Moments of terror were experienced yesterday morning, Sunday, July 27, on board EasyJet flight EZY609 departing from London-Luton Airport and bound for Glasgow. A 41-year-old passenger triggered panic by claiming to have a bomb and making threats against the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who at that time was in Scotland also to meet the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to sign the US-EU tariff agreement (see AVIONEWS).

According to initial reconstructions, the man came out of an airplane lavatory shouting phrases such as "Allah Akbar", "Death to Trump", and "Death to America", demanding the aircraft be stopped and the device located. The swift reaction of some passengers proved decisive: together with the crew, they managed to restrain the man, holding him down until landing. Faced with the serious threat, the flight commander carried out the landing of the Airbus A-319 at Glasgow following emergency procedures. Once on the ground, Scottish authorities boarded the aircraft and proceeded to arrest the passenger.

Sources from the Scottish police confirmed that no explosive device was found on board the aircraft, reassuring passengers and crew alike. However, thorough investigations are ongoing to ascertain the man’s motives and mental state, involving counterterrorism authorities. At this time, it appears the individual acted alone.

In an official statement, easyJet confirmed the incident: "Flight EZY609 from Luton to Glasgow was met on arrival by the police, who boarded to remove a passenger due to his behavior during the journey". The airline also emphasized the effectiveness of security procedures: "The easyJet crew is trained to assess every situation and to intervene quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety of the flight and passengers".
