Italian airports: dispensers for free water refills for air travellers

By the end of the year there will be 22 associated with Assaeroporti; some have already been active for some time

By the end of the year, 22 airports affiliated with Italian Assaeroporti will offer departing passengers the possibility to refill reusable bottles and water bottles free of charge once they have passed through security checks. To the airports of Milan‑Malpensa and Linate, Naples, Bologna, Cagliari, Turin, Olbia and Alghero—where the refill points have been active for some time—numerous other ones have been added in response to the call to action promoted by Assaeroporti, having implemented or currently finalizing the installation of the dispensers. Among the most recent additions, refill points have been activated at the airports of Bergamo, Palermo and Cuneo, while by the end of the year they will also be available at Catania, Pisa, Florence, Trieste, Trapani, Pescara, Rimini, Comiso and Salerno, further expanding national coverage.

With different arrangements but always free of charge for travellers, the airports of Genoa and Grosseto also ensure access to drinking water in the airside areas.

The initiative aims to improve passengers’ travel experience and contribute to the reduction of single‑use plastic. A concrete measure with benefits for the environment and the community, for increasingly sustainable, traveller‑friendly airports.
