Malpensa confirms its role as a strategic hub for Italy - ATTACHMENT
Wizz Air and SEA (Milan Airports) presented today, in a joint event, the Winter Season 2025, confirming the low-cost carrier's continued commitment to the Italian market with a particular focus on the Lombardy city.
The Winter Season opens with a significant expansion of the carrier's network in Italy, thanks to the launch of 41 new routes, of which 23 are unique (operated exclusively), representing an overall growth of 14% compared to the previous Winter season.
In particular, the airline further strengthens Malpensa Airport's centrality as one of its most important bases and a nerve centre in northern Italy. The air company has announced a significant enhancement of its offering with the introduction of five new routes that open new doors to destinations of notable cultural, economic and leisure interest across Europe. The new destinations include: Glasgow and London (United Kingdom), Brasov (Romania), Alicante and Seville (Spain).
Of particular note is the introduction of air links to Brasov and Glasgow, routes that Wizz Air will operate from Malpensa.
Since the beginning of 2025 to date it has operated over 16,000 flights from Malpensa, with an increase of almost 27% compared to the same period in 2024, and carried over 3.4 million passengers – 32% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Overall the Winter Season 2025 will cover the entire national territory, consolidating the carrier's presence across a total of 27 Italian airports. The 2025 Winter season aims to strengthen the connectivity of its Italian bases and regional airports: not only Malpensa, but also Catania, Naples, Rome–Fiumicino, Pescara and Turin. New connections, such as Turin–Budapest, Turin–Sofia, Pescara/Bucharest–Otopeni and Naples–Timișoara, join those to Bari (with Yerevan and Skopje) and Catania to Gdańsk. With the addition of key routes throughout Italy, the airline confirms its strategy aimed at improving connectivity and international reach, reiterating the centrality of the Italian market.
