Ten-year security agreement signed between Ukraine and the United States. The presidents of the two countries, the American Joe Biden and the Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky, signed the document on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, the meeting between the heads of state of the seven member countries currently taking place in Puglia until 15 June 2024. The agreement should represent a step forward towards Ukraine's eventual membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

"By supporting the independence of Ukraine, we defend general principles of coexistence between nations, on which rests, from the Second World War onwards, the freedom, security, prosperity of our peoples as well as the development and growing role of those who were, despite themselves, spectators of history", declared the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the G7 dinner last night.

The US-Ukraine agreement provides that "in the event of an armed attack or threat against Ukraine, top US and Ukrainian officials will meet within 24 hours to consult on a response", the agreement reads. The United States intends to provide "long-term material, training and advisory, sustainment, intelligence, security, industrial, institutional, and other defense support to develop Ukrainian security and defense forces that are capable of defending a sovereign, independent Ukraine and democratic and to deter future aggression".

Applause from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, also a guest in Puglia: "Clear support for Ukraine, international law and a just peace at the G7 summit". “Every day we strengthen our positions and our defense of life. Every meeting serves to give Ukraine new opportunities for victory. I am grateful to all our partners".
