Skybus, the nth US airline in bankruptcy
Columbus, USA - Due to rising fuel costs and a slowdown in the economy
After Aloha Airlines and ATA, also another US low-cost - Skybus - has grounded its fleet and plans to file for bankruptcy protection this week. The Columbus-based airline cites rising fuel costs and a slowdown in the economy for its financial woes.
Skybus, which started flying out of Port Columbus International Airport less than a year ago, made 74 daily flights to 15 cities, charging fares as low as 10 dollars. Passengers who are holding a ticket for a Skybus flight are eligible for a full refund.
Today the US press said that JetBlue Airways and US Airways would offer a special standby fares of 50 dollars, one-way, for Skybus customers and employees affected by the cessation of Skybus operations.
