Cabo Verde Airlines, the Cape Verde scheduled carrier, inaugurated the Rome-Sal link yesterday at Fiumicino airport. The airline operates from Fiumicino three-weekly flights also connecting, from the island of Sal, other tourist destinations such as Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Dakar.
The airline has been an active member of IATA (International Air Transport Association) since November 2009; it was recently taken over by 51% of the company Loftfeidir Cabo Verde, which is part of the Icelandair Group. The Icelandic company in addition to appointing the CEO and management, makes its aircraft available to the new Cabo Verde Airlines. At the moment three B-757s have already been registered in Cabo Verde, while a fourth is coming for the Winter season. The plan is to increase the fleet with two aircraft per year, up to a total of 20. The B-757s, recently painted with the new colors of the company, have two classes of service: Comfort and Economy.
