Peace Plan for Gaza: Trump and Netanyahu announce a "Historic Day"

Israeli Prime Minister accepts US proposal; Trump speaks of "peace forever in the Middle East" /VIDEO

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, held a joint press conference at the White House in Washington DC to announce significant progress on a peace plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and the clashes with Hamas. Trump opened the meeting calling the occasion "a historic day for peace" and "potentially one of the most important days in the history of civilization". He revealed that Prime Minister Netanyahu had given his assent to the American plan for Gaza. "We are more than close to a peace agreement on Gaza", the US President said, adding later: "We are very, very close, at minimum. And I think we are beyond, very close".

Netanyahu, for his part, while not delivering a long speech, confirmed Israel's commitment to work for the success of the initiative. Echoing his previous statements, the prime minister emphasized his close cooperation with the US Administration.

The American president expressed deep gratitude to Netanyahu, praising him "for really committing himself and doing a good job" in accepting the proposal. "We have worked well together, as we have with many other countries", he said. Trump emphasized that the Gaza agreement is only one component of a broader objective, which he described as "peace forever in the Middle East".

Although the primary focus was on Israel, the president also acknowledged the contribution of other international actors, specifically thanking Arab and Muslim countries for their involvement in drafting the proposal. He also noted that Europe "has been very involved in the plan for Gaza", suggesting a broad coalition of international support.

The press conference concluded with emphasis on the extraordinary importance of the moment, with Trump reiterating his gratitude to the Israeli leader for having accepted the American road-map.
