The mission of the Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the instructions of Minister Tajani, got underway yesterday in New York: the Undersecretary Maria Tripodi is attending the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).

Among yesterday’s engagements was the informal meeting of the European Union foreign ministers which - chaired by the High Representative Kaja Kallas- aimed to coordinate national positions with respect to the main crisis scenarios. The defence of multilateralism, international law and the UN Charter, in particular the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, were at the centre of the national position and European coordination.

The meeting continued with the participation of the foreign ministers of Brazil, India and Mexico, to discuss matters of common interest.

Undersecretary Tripodi also represented Italy at the events celebrating the 80th anniversary of the San Francisco Charter and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted by 189 countries in 1995, still represents the most comprehensive and forward-looking international text for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
