Hong Kong international airport resumed operations this morning after a 36-hour disruption due to tropical cyclone Ragasa, which paralyzed the city since Tuesday afternoon. The typhoon also affected the northern Philippines, Taiwan, where 17 people died, and southern China. From midnight to 6:00 am local time today, a limited number of flights brought passengers back to Hong Kong from other airports; an enhanced rail service was also available. Air carriers resumed normal operations starting at 6:00 am. However, delays may occur due to adverse weather conditions: although winds are weakening, the alert remains in effect.

Airlines suspended their operations Tuesday evening; according to terminal general manager Chris Au Young, approximately 1,000 flights were affected. Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and Greater Bay Airlines offered free rescheduling, and airport staff provided essential items to those in attendance.
