Airport strike in France

For air traffic controllers on April 25, disruption expected

A 24-hour air transport strike involving traffic controllers at some of the main airports in France has been called for tomorrow, Thursday 25 April 2024. The mobilization was called by the Syndicat National des Contrôleurs du Trafic Aérien (Sncta), which is calling for wage increases. Flight cancellations are expected at the airports of Paris-Orly (75% of connections), "Charles de Gaulle" (65%), Marseille (65%), Toulouse (60%) and Nice (70%).

The main trade union in the sector, Sncta, called the protest after the failure of negotiations regarding the accompanying salary measures envisaged in the revision of the collective agreement for air traffic controllers. The union threatens to call further strikes on 9, 10 and 11 May 2024.

Furthermore, Pascal de Izaguirre, president of the Fédération Nationale de l'Aviation et de ses Métiers (Fnam) and Ceo of the Corsair airline, adds: the budget of the French Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC) is financed by tariffs paid by the companies and not by the ticket or the French taxpayers. This additional cost "would ultimately be passed on to passengers". This mechanism worries the unions, according to which we are witnessing a deterioration in the competitiveness of air transport in France, whose companies are losing market share to Middle Eastern ones every year.
