Colombia has a new commander of the armed forces

Appointed Admiral Francisco Cubides to manage truce with guerrillas

Colombia has a new commander general of the armed forces. This is the admiral of the Navy, Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, who will take the reins of the Ejército Nacional (Army), the Armada de la República (Navy) and the Fuerza Aérea Colombiana (Air Force). His name was recommend by Colombian President Gustavo Petro.

"Welcome Admiral Granados as the new general commander of the armed forces, replacing General Bonilla, whom I thank for his commitment to peace and who will remain in active service abroad", the Colombian president wrote on social networks.

The new commander of the national armed forces will replace Hélder Fernán Giraldo Bonilla, general of the Army. This appointment is part of the ministerial reshuffle that the president has been carrying out for a few days to prepare the second half of his mandate. Petro's goal is to improve the government's management of the truce with guerrilla bands and advance peace negotiations with dissidents.
