An analysis by Denver Airport estimates that the route will generate an annual benefit of $23.2 million for the Colorado economy, creating about 150 new jobs, mostly in the tourism sector, and generating $10 million in additional wages.

Denver International Airport (DEN) marked a historic day as United Airlines inaugurated its new non-stop flight to Rome, Italy, operated by a 257-seat B-787/9 Dreamliner. The aircraft took off from Denver yesterday, May 1st, 2025, at 5:50 pm local time, for a 10.5-hour flight to the Eternal City. The gate opening event was attended by dignitaries including DEN CEO Phil Washington, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, Honorary Consul of Italy Giovanna Carrerio-Contreras, and Jonna McGrath, United’s vice president of airport operations in Denver.

Mayor Johnston expressed his excitement, stating, “United’s new non-stop service to Italy will strengthen our global ties and open up opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange". This new route is the first ever non-stop between Denver and Italy. Flights are scheduled daily. An economic impact analysis conducted by DEN estimates that United’s Denver-Rome flights will generate an annual benefit of $23.2 million for the Colorado economy, creating approximately 150 new jobs, primarily in the tourism sector, and generating $10 million in additional wages.

“United’s ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional travel experience in Denver is underscored by our new route to Rome, as well as the nearly $1 billion in investments we’ve made to enhance the customer experience and provide greater convenience", McGrath said. Travel demand between Denver and Italy has increased significantly in recent years, with a 50% increase in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. In terms of foreign markets, Italy now ranks second for travel demand from Denver, surpassed only by the United Kingdom, up from fourth place in 2019 and surpassing France and Germany. The new nonstop flight to Rome is expected to further drive travel demand.

With the new route, Denver Airport now has direct connections to 35 international destinations in 19 countries, the most in the airport's history. This includes nine destinations in eight European Nations.

“The opening of this direct flight is fantastic news for the Italian community in Colorado and for all those who want to explore the wonders of Rome and Italy", said Marco Rossi, a representative of the Italian-American community in Denver. “This connection will facilitate cultural exchanges and strengthen the ties between our regions". Local travel agencies are also enthusiastic about the new route: “We have already received numerous requests for this direct flight", said Sarah Miller, owner of an agency in Denver. “Italy is a very popular destination and having a direct flight option will make the trip much more convenient for our customers".
