The 100 years of Delta Air Lines

Among the initiatives for the celebrations is also a video that brings to life the uniforms from their beginnings to today/VIDEO

Delta celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year. Founded in 1925 as a small carrier specialized in aerial crop dusting, it is today the "most awarded US airline and the world's largest by revenue", according to an official statement. Over the years, the company has acquired Northeast Airlines (1972), Western Airlines (1987), and the transatlantic network of Pan American World Airways (1991), and in 2008 it merged with Northwest, thus operating in every region of the world.

It started operating from Italy in 1991. A founding member of the SkyTeam alliance and part of the transatlantic joint-venture with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic, which transports 30,000 passengers daily between Europe and the United States, the airline today is among the leaders in the aviation sector in terms of performance, innovation, technology, and customer service. To commemorate its centennial year, it launched a new safety video onboard, which traces the company's history through the flight attendants’ uniforms across the decades, paying tribute to a century-long legacy.

From the sophisticated cuts of the 1940s to the more playful styles of the 1970s, all the way to collaborations with renowned designers such as Richard Tyler and Zac Posen, Delta’s uniforms are the protagonists of the new video, guiding passengers through the onboard regulations with settings contextualized to the passing of time.

In its centennial year, the air company has committed “to further improve its customer service, innovative services, and technological evolution, with initiatives that include the usage of new digital tools for travel management and onboard entertainment, as well as collaborations with prestigious brands like Taittinger champagne and Missoni".
