Syria, a large-scale investment of 4 billion dollars for Damascus airport

The agreement includes a financing of 250 million for 10 Airbus A-320 aircraft destined for Syrian Airlines

An international consortium led by Qatar's UCC Holding has secured the redevelopment and expansion of the airport, a project aimed at revitalizing the economy and global connectivity. 90,000 jobs are expected to be created

Syria has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth over $4 billion with a consortium of five companies, led by the Qatari firm Ucc Holding, for the redevelopment and expansion of Damascus International Airport. The agreement, endorsed under the patronage of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, represents one of the largest infrastructure investments in the country in recent decades, aiming to revive the economy, tourism, and global connectivity.

The project, part of the Nation's reconstruction initiatives, aims to restore Syria to the heart of regional and international air routes. The consortium, formed by Ucc Concessions Investments Llc (Qatar), Assets Investments Usa Llc (United States), Cengiz İnşaat, Kalyon İnşaat, and TAV Tepe Akfen (Turkey), will manage the operation under a "build-operate-transfer" scheme.

The redevelopment will proceed in five successive phases, increasing the airport's annual capacity from current levels to 31 million passengers. The airport will be constructed according to the highest international standards approved by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and IATA (International Air Transport Association), and will include 32 gates with modern boarding bridges, an integrated air navigation system, and a duty-free area featuring restaurants, cafes, and high-end retail stores.

The agreement also includes the development of a 50 km access road and financing of $250 million for the acquisition of ten Airbus A-320 aircraft to be operated by Syrian Airlines. According to the statement, the project will create over 90,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly contributing to strengthening the local economy.

The signing ceremony took place in Damascus in the presence of Tom Barrack, the United States Special Envoy to Syria, representatives from the Qatari embassy, and official delegations. Among the signatories were Omar Al-Husari on behalf of the Syrian government, and the chairmen and CEOs of the consortium companies, including Mohammad Moataz Al-Khayyat of Ucc Holding, who highlighted that the project is the result of a "strategic partnership with the unified goal of rebuilding one of Syria’s most vital infrastructures".
