Aircraft and carriers. Puglia Sky is launched: local consortium targets regional routes

Initial capital over 5.5 million, AOC process and plan for fleet, slots and personnel recruitment

A few weeks after the announcement by Confindustria Bari-Bat, an entrepreneurial project is taking shape to give Apulia a private regional airline. In a notary's office in Bari the deed of incorporation could be signed within days for what, provisionally called "Puglia Sky", would see at least a dozen local investors involved. The declared initial capital exceeds € 5.5 million, with possible adhesion of other industrial partners. The original consortium includes four well-known local operators: the Foggia-based Antonio Salandra and Giacomo Mescia, active in renewables and wind power; the Bari-based Vito Ladisa, with interests in publishing and hospitality/football; and the Taranto publisher Antonio Albanese, engaged in waste management.

They could be joined by another five parties, still undisclosed, who are in talks with Confindustria Bari-Bat and its president Mario Aprile. The operating model would prioritize domestic connections from Bari-Palese and a strengthening of routes to Brindisi (Salento) and Foggia ("Gino Lisa" Airport), with the aim of later developing international routes. Aeroporti di Puglia, chaired by Antonio Vasile, is following the initiative with interest and has expressed institutional support.

On the operational front the regulatory phases remain to be completed —obtaining the AOC, defining the aircraft fleet, slots and handling agreements— and the recruitment of flight crews and ground staff, preferably drawing on the many redundancies in the sector. The operation also aims to exert downward pressure on prices, offering lower fares after recent increases and responding to mobility needs for work and health travel to Central and Northern Italy. The issue of Brindisi remains open: the exclusion of Salento from the upcoming intercontinental connections via Bari has drawn criticism locally, an issue the new carrier could help to redress.
