Presentation for the space economy fair in December

Scientific conference scheduled by Italian ASI

Rome becomes the capital of space with NSE (New Space Economy) from 10 to 12 December. The event, organized by Fiera Roma, in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and with the participation of the Lazio Region and the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, was presented yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit). The Space Economy returns to the spotlight thanks to NSE, the reference event in Italy for exploring the changes affecting the Space Economy that drive the entire country, with impacts on everyday life: from global communications to defence, from environmental monitoring to scientific research. The main theme of this seventh edition is “Shaping the Future of Space - The Future is not what it used to be”, quoting the words of the poet Mark Strand, which evokes the dynamic and rapidly evolving vision of the Space sector and the application areas of its technologies.

NSE 2025 is counted among the main European space appointments as a founding member of the Space Golden League, the alliance that brings together some of the principal European space conferences, alongside the European Space Conference in Brussels, the Munich Space Summit and Les Assises du NewSpace in Paris. The core of the 2025 edition will be the international scientific conference coordinated with ASI, with a programme curated by a Scientific Committee chaired by Elda Turco Bulgherini and composed of representatives from the Presidency of the Council, Mimit, the Ministry of Defence, the European Space Agency (ESA), ASI, academia and companies active in the Italian space industrial supply chain. From the new Italian Space law to artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, through the frontiers of sustainability in space: NSE 2025 shines a spotlight on the ongoing changes that primarily affect the Space Economy sector.

The programme of the scientific conference, structured into 18 thematic sessions, will offer a 360-degree view of the transformations underway in the sector, with dialogue between institutions, industry, research and young innovators. Topics will include regulation and global governance, with a focus on the Italian Space law and the emerging EU Space Act, satellite telecommunications, Earth observation and next-generation navigation systems, but also access to space and security aspects. The theme of synergies with other sectors of relevance to the national economy, such as the Blue Economy, will also be addressed.

The event also confirms itself as the privileged forum for exchange between research, industry, institutions and academia on the new frontier of space. Great attention will be paid to exploring the role of human capital and skills, with a focus on educational pathways and the professions of the future. Pavilion 10 will host the Educational Hub, the area for training and updating on space topics dedicated to young people and students, enlivened by universities and research bodies, featuring prototypes, demonstrations and projects developed by students. Career Opportunity also returns, the initiative that allows recent graduates and young professionals to meet directly with HR managers from leading companies in the sector (Avio, Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space) to orient themselves towards new professional opportunities.

The large exhibition area, with stands and desks of sector bodies and companies, will provide an opportunity for companies in the space production chain to present the latest scientific and technological developments. Also planned are the “Working Tables”, a new feature of this edition, technical roundtables that will connect experts and exhibitors, acting as collaborative think tanks for the entire space ecosystem where new partnerships and projects can be explored and developed. The annual contest that selects and rewards the most innovative startups in the Space Economy landscape is also confirmed. Traditional areas such as the Arena, the main stage in the exhibition area that will host events and corporate presentations by exhibitors and sponsors, and the Networking and B2B Area, designed to foster meetings and new connections especially at the international level, will return. Among the novelties is also the collaboration with Fondazione Leonardo ETS, which will in particular curate interviews with members of the scientific committee within its multimedia production centre throughout the three days of the event at Fiera Roma.
