“Many happy landings”: Hesse's Minister President Boris Rhein christened a brand-new Boeing 787-9 “Frankfurt am Main” at Frankfurt Airport yesterday. The “Dreamliner” is the first Lufthansa long-haul aircraft at its Hessian home hub to feature the new Allegris cabin concept. Passengers can look forward to significantly improved comfort in all travel classes, with innovative seating concepts, high-quality materials, and state-of-the-art technology.

The Lufthansa Group expects to add 100 new modern long-haul aircraft by 2030. Around half of these will be based at the Frankfurt hub. The latest generation of aircraft are significantly quieter and more climate friendly. For example, a state-of-the-art 787-9 “Dreamliner” consumes on average only around 2.5 liters of kerosene per passenger and 100 kilometers of flight distance. This reduces CO2 emissions by around 25 percent compared to previous models.

The “Frankfurt am Main” with the registration D-ABPF has been flying regularly between the Main hub and Toronto since October 9, 2025. With the expansion of the fleet, further destinations will be added to the winter flight schedule: Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Hyderabad, and Austin are planned.

Frankfurt am Main and Lufthansa have had an official godparent partnership for 65 years. The D-ABPF is already the seventh aircraft to bear this name, including the first Lufthansa Airbus A380. Lufthansa first named an aircraft “Frankfurt” in 1960 – with the arrival of the airline’s first Boeing 707 at the time.
