Aircraft and transport: stop masks from May 16

Recommendation to wear it on some routes and for fragile passengers remains

As of Monday, May 16, the requirement to wear face masks will cease on board aircraft and at airports. It is stated in a joint decision by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). This is the result of the latest revision of the travel safety protocol.

However, the agencies point out that "the face mask remains one of the best defenses against transmission of Covid-19", and that using it is "strongly recommended for those who cough or sneeze, as well as for all frail people", who "should continue to wear it regardless of the rules, ideally of type FFP2, N95, Kn95".

After May 16, the mask rules will depend in some respects on the corporate safety policies of the airline with which one travels. Specifically, on "flights to or from a destination where facemasks are still required on public transportation".
