Helicopter crash in Brasil:4 people died

Rio de Janeiro, Brasil - Bodies found after intense research

A helicopter rented out by Brazilian oil major Petrobras crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Rio de Janeiro last Friday causing the death of four people, amongst which the pilot and co-pilot. Three of the four bodies were recovered 100metres below sea level on the ocean floor, approximately 62 miles from the coast where much of Brazil’s newest and deepest oil discoveries are taking place. They were found after two days of research because of rough seas, and it was assumed that the cause of the accident may have been the weather. The company said that the rental helicopter owned by Senior Taxi Aereo asked for authorization for an emergency landing at the Macaé Airport on Friday and that emergency procedures were immediately put into place. The airport said it lost contact with the Senior Taxi helicopter around 17:00 local time, according to Petrobras. Petrobras, which has participated in the research process along with maritime and air forces of Brazil, has ordered the grounding of the AW-139 hired. No Petrobras employees were killed in the crash. The men were identified as Rommel Oliveira Garcia, pilot, and Lauro Pinto Haytzann, co-pilot, both employees of Senior Air Taxis, the passengers were Ricardo Leal de Oliveira from the company Engevix and Joao Carlos Pereira da Silva Brasitest inspector.
