Le Bourget (6). The Netherlands enhance C-390 Millennium aircraft capability

Agreement signed with Embraer for aeromedical evacuation systems intended for the RN Air Force fleet - VIDEO

Embraer and the Netherlands have signed a historic contract today for the supply of a state-of-the-art aeromedical evacuation system for the Royal Netherlands Air Force's C-390 Millennium aircraft fleet. The agreement, which includes a firm order and seven purchase options, was signed today by Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman (MSc), Commander of the Material and IT Command, and Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, during a ceremony at the "Paris Air Show" (June 16-22). The core of the aeromedical system is a roll-on/roll-off medical module, a self-contained and air-transportable unit that functions as a mini-hospital. It supports the treatment and transport of patients, including those requiring full life support. Its design also allows for the transport of infected patients, safeguarding medical personnel and crew.

All components of the aeromedical system are fully compatible with the C-390's Cargo Handling System (CHS) and can be rapidly installed via the aircraft's rear ramp, ensuring seamless integration and deployment. This innovative system will significantly enhance the Netherlands' capability to conduct humanitarian operations, disaster relief, and military medicine.

Since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, with the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, and more recently with the Hungarian Air Force in 2024, the C-390 Millennium has demonstrated its capability, reliability, and performance, reads a statement. The currently operational fleet has shown a 93% mission availability rate and mission completion percentages exceeding 99%.

"The C-390 can carry a greater payload (26 tons) than other medium-sized military transport aircraft and flies faster (470 knots) and farther, being capable of performing a wide range of missions such as cargo and troop transport and air drop, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian missions, operating on temporary or unpaved runways such as dirt, soil, and gravel. The aircraft configured with refueling equipment, designated KC-390, has already demonstrated its aerial refueling capability both as a tanker and as a receiver, in the latter case receiving fuel from another KC-390 via pods installed under the wings", the statement from Paris concludes.
