Japan: F-35 aircraft wreck recovery operations soon
Flight data logger required for the investigation -DATASHEET
To find the cause of the crash of the Lockheed Martin F-35A aircraft of the Japanese air force (Jasdf) it could take a very long time, especially since the main part of the wreck is sunk in an area of the Pacific Ocean more than 1500 meters deep. At the moment the investigations carried out together with the technicians of the US company, the Pentagon and those of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries -who assembled the aircraft- are based on what was communicated by the pilot -he is still missing- via radio just before the crash, also because the recovered parts of the wreck are only sections of the wing and rudders. Not having the wreckage available or at least the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) makes investigations practically impossible.
This is because the pilot only communicated that he would have to interrupt the training mission without explaining what the fifth generation plane's problem was. The Tokyo armed forces would be evaluating whether or not to involve private companies specialized in these operations, which through small submarines with remote driving are able to identify and recover the wreck in such a way as to allow the investigation. Investigation necessary because all Japanese F-35As have been grounded as a precaution until the cause of the accident has been clarified.
The technical sheet of the Lockheed Martin F-35 is attached to this AVIONEWS.
