Aircraft and carriers. Portugal becomes Iberia's plan B
In Summer, the focus will be short range
Even plans that may seem perfect must have a viable alternative. It is for this reason that the air carrier Iberia is carefully evaluating the proverbial "plan B". What is it specifically about? The Spanish company is trying to adapt to the emergency situation and the planning of the next routes can only be affected by the pandemic. The long haul, primarily Latin America, is becoming complicated to manage and organize, consequently plan B consists of a country very close to the airline's headquarters, Portugal. One of Iberia's main Summer bets, in fact, is represented by the Lusitanian country. In addition to the traditional connections with the cities of Lisbon and Porto, destinations such as Funchal and Faro will be added, without forgetting charter flights to Porto Santo. Currently the Portuguese capital can boast 14 weekly frequencies, which will become 22 between the next months of June and September. As for Funchal, the first of the novelties of this Summer, the connections will start on June 2nd. It will replicate later in October. Among other things, Faro is joined by another air carrier, namely Air Nostrum. In practice, Iberia's programming shows that in the period of the pandemic, priority must be given to domestic and short-haul flights. As has been learned in this month of April, the Spanish company wants to aim for a level of passenger traffic that is at least 59% of that recorded before the lockdown.
