China: Tibet Airlines plane on fire

Aborted takeoff due to engine problems, then off-track - VIDEO

An A-319 plane belonging to China's Tibet Airlines caught fire just after it aborted takeoff and went off the runway. It happened this morning at Chongqing-Jiangbei International Airport in the city of Chongqing. The aircraft, bound for Nyingchi, Tibet, caught fire. On board were 122 people (113 passengers and 9 crewmembers). The toll was several people injured. Rescuers and firefighting crews responded to the scene and tamed the flames, according to Chinese media reports.

Officials from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (Caac) explained in a note that the pilots followed procedures, aborting takeoff after experiencing an engine malfunction, which caused the aircraft to go off the runway and catch fire. In addition, the agency added that 36 people were transported to the hospital.
