Air India will expand its aircraft fleet

Air carrier Group Tata will lease 30 units from Boeing and Airbus

The national airline Air India, controlled by the Tata Group, announced today that it will expand its fleet by more than 25% thanks to the rental of 31 new aircraft built by American Boeing and European Airbus. The decision falls within the framework of the initiatives of the new ownership which, after saving the airline from bankruptcy, aims to put the old aircraft aside, improving finances and service.

"After a long time without significant growth, Air India resumes expanding its fleet and global presence. These new aircraft, together with existing aircraft returning to service, respond to an immediate need for greater capacity and connectivity and mark a strong step forward", said Air India CEO Campbell Wilson

The agreements provide for the rental of 21 A-320neo, 4 A-321neo, 5 B-777 / 200LR. The new fixed-wing craft are expected to enter service from the first quarter of 2023 on national and international short-haul routes. In particular, the B-777 / 200LR could be used for India-United States flights.
