Boeing will resell B-737 Max aircraft destined for China

Over 100 airplanes still blocked by authorities after deadly disasters

The US aviation group Boeing has announced that it will seek to resell the 100 B-737 Max aircraft initially intended for Chinese carriers to other airlines. This is a decision dictated by the need to unblock the stall of the sale after the Chinese authorities have not yet re-authorized the flight of this model of aircraft.

The B-737 Max aircraft had been blocked worldwide after the two fatal accidents: the Lion Air flight 610 which crashed into the Java Sea on October 29, 2018, causing 189 victims; and that of Ethiopian Airlines 302 which on March 10, 2019 fell to the ground killing 157 people. China is the last major market that has not yet allowed companies to resume use of those aircraft.

The American manufacturer did not say how many planes could be resold to new buyers. As of June 2022, Boeing had 290 Max planes not delivered yet, of which about half were destined for China. The industry has indicated that although China is an important market, it will not be able to wait long.
