Meloni Government: first phone call with Biden

"Ready to work together in the Atlantic Alliance"

Palazzo Chigi communicated in the past few hours that the president of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the president of the United States, Joe Biden, had a first telephone conversation in which the American politician congratulated him for gaining confidence in the Chamber of Deputies, reaffirming the deep friendship that binds Rome and Washington. Meloni stressed the importance of the transatlantic partnership, especially in light of the challenge that Western democracies are facing with the war in Ukraine, the energy and food crises.

The two leaders "underlined the strong relationship between the United States and Italy, and expressed their readiness to work together in the transatlantic alliance to face common challenges". They also "discussed their commitment to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, to hold Russia accountable for its aggression, to address the challenges posed by China, and to ensure sustainable and affordable energy sources", the White House reports.
