Private planes: looking for owners in difficulty

The market trend sees operators looking for aircraft on offer

Some private aircraft operators are looking to purchase new aircraft whose owners are struggling financially. The market is on the rise. An indication of this trend can be found in the financial statements recently presented by American aircraft manufacturers such as Gulfstream (General Dynamics) and Cessna (Textron), which show an increase in the rate of overdue payments.

While defaults remain rare, these signals are attracting the attention of industry investors. An indirect confirmation of this is that the demand for the purchase of used aircraft has begun to moderate. It's a situation fueled by the pandemic, where access to cash has prompted elite travelers to buy corporate jets, but rising interest rates and a looming recession have prompted some buyers to delay purchases.

A further confirmation of this trend is given by the Canadian company Bombardier, which owns a division specialized in the construction of aircraft for business customers: in publishing the financial report it explained to shareholders and investors that it was able to resell to other customers at least 4-5 airplanes originally intended for buyers in Russia, pre-war Ukraine.
