Taiwan extends military service

The enlistment period for the island's young men increases from 4 months to a year

Tensions rise between Taiwan and China. Taipei's defense minister, Chiu Kuo-cheng, announced the extension of mandatory military service for men today. The enlistment period for the island's young men increases from 4 months to a year. A decision that aims to counter Beijing's demonstration military operations in the Taiwan Strait, with continuous air and sea invasions of the territorial space.

This is a measure decided in response to a probable military mission by Beijing in Chinese territory. Indeed, according to the Taipei government, Beijing is preparing an invasion of the island, considered by the Chinese to be a rebel island to be annexed by force by 2025. At the root of the tension is the increase in international trade and relations between Taiwan and the United States, whose intensification would be making Beijing angry.
