Air India suspends some pilots

Accused of violating rules inside the cockpit

Air India has suspended two of its pilots for a safety violation while in the cockpit. The episodes, which date back to a few months ago, concern the invitation of an unauthorized person inside the cockpit during a domestic air connection, for which it is necessary to maintain high levels of security. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Dgca) is investigating the case.

"Landing at Leh airport is one of the most difficult operations in the whole country. It's due to the high altitude mountainous terrain and the presence of military air bases. Furthermore, operating in this area requires excellent health due to insufficient oxygen levels. For this reason only highly qualified and healthy pilots should be employed for operations over Leh", explained Vipul Saxena, an aviation expert.

The episode dates back to June 13th. That day the commander and co-pilot of the A-320neo aircraft (flight AI-445) invited a friend into the cockpit during a domestic flight on the New Delhi-Leh route. Air India company immediately decided to suspend the two workers.
