Ukrainian conflict: Kiev pilots on F-16 planes

The training haven't got into the thick of things

The supplying of General Dynamics F-16 "Fighting Falcon" fighter aircraft to Kiev is becoming more pressing. The first go-ahead came at the G7 summit in Hiroshima (May 19-21) from the President of the United States. Once the Ukrainian spring military offensive against Russia has begun, European countries and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) are planning training, which should last for months.

"Ukrainian pilots of F-16 aircraft have not yet left" for training, although the decision has already been made. The training courses within the international aeronautical coalition have, however, already begun. It's not that simple. There are several training bases. It is possible that there is one main base and the others are auxiliary, because besides the pilots there are other aviation specialists who need to be trained", explained the spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuri Ignat.

"If a country that has no F-16 aircraft in service -added the military- can provide its own base for primary flight training, why not do it?". For this reason, Ukraine can "consider different options" and this is "exactly what our management is doing: traveling to different countries, meeting colleagues and studying different air bases, because we have to do everything quickly and at the same time with high quality".
