Suzuki bets on air taxis

Agreement with Japanese start-up to start joint production by spring 2024

The Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki Motor announced in the past few hours that it has reached an agreement with the Japanese start-up SkyDrive, specialized in the production of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVtol, Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, for the development of air taxis. The agreement, launched in March 2023, plans to start joint production of these vehicles by spring 2024.

The Suzuki brand said this in a statement. Under the agreement, SkyDrive will begin manufacturing the aircraft at the Japan Automotive Group's plant located in Shizuoka Prefecture. SkyDrive will provide its know-how and set up a subsidiary to work with Suzuki, while the latter will provide the production systems, including specialized technicians and engineers.
