Paris airports: Olympics are pressing

They will be the main gateways for the Games which will start on 26 July 2024

Paris airport managers are under enormous pressure ahead of the Olympics to be held in the French capital in 2024. The international airport "Charles de Gaulle" and the smaller Orly will be the two crucial gateways to the Games which will open on July 26 next year. It will be a real challenge for the air transport sector across the Alps. A business card that will give visitors their first impression of the country.

"Approximately 85,000 athletes, coaches and officials will be accredited for the Olympics and Paralympics, excluding spectators. In terms of numbers, that's a drop in the ocean compared to the approximately 340,000 people who pass through on peak days in the Summer", he said Renaud Duplay, deputy director of the "Charles de Gaulle" airport. However, "there will be a larger than usual volume of oversized baggage to handle", added Jerome Harnois, the state official in charge of the capital's airports.

The reception of air connections with sportsmen and support teams on board have different needs and expectations than those on which airport infrastructures are designed. Think of canoeists who will travel with their kayaks or cyclists with their bicycles. For this reason, each delegation will have a personalized welcome: priority routes have been designed in the airport terminals and points for collecting official accreditations. Passport control will be simplified thanks to the installation of automated security gates.
