Paris deploys anti-migrant helicopter

The Élysée mobilizes counter-terrorism to manage flows on the Italian-French border

The migrant emergency in Italy has pushed Paris to mobilize the anti-terrorism service to deal with the flows concentrated on the Italian-French border. The country beyond the Alps has deployed ground vehicles and a helicopter, belonging to the Transalpine Customs Agency, which has been flying over the area between Ponte San Ludovico and Ponte San Luigi, in Ventimiglia, since this morning. Work on the construction of an identification center is also underway.

"To deal with the announced influx of irregular migrants, municipal land next to the border office and the police services could be made available to the state and civil protection services", explained the mayor of the French city of Menton, Yves Juhel, who defines it as a "transitional situation" necessary to manage a hundred adults without a residence permit.

Migrants "will be subjected to surveillance -he specifies- without the possibility of coming and going on our territory. If their request is not valid, they will be accompanied back to the Italian border. Mentone wishes to preserve the identity of its municipality, the living environment of the citizens. Any other hypothesis would constitute an exploitation of the issue of immigration, for which the city of Menton has neither competence nor responsibility".
