Tokyo (2): passengers safe, probable collision on the ground

Currently there are 5 missing on board a second aircraft

The 367 passengers who were on board the A-350/900 plane of the Nippon company Japan Airlines (JAL flight 516), which this morning was devoured by flames after landing on the runway of Tokyo-Haneda airport, have been safely evacuated. It was made known by the Japanese media, which spoke of a collision with a second aircraft as the cause of the accident. The airport, one of the busiest in Asia, is currently closed.

According to some summary information, the airliner collided with an aircraft perhaps belonging to the Japanese Coast Guard or the Self-Defense Forces. However, five people who were on board the latter aircraft are currently missing. The evaluation is provisional.

From an initial reconstruction it would appear that the collision occurred around 9:47am Italian time, when both planes were taxiing. Therefore, the Japan Airlines airliner would have caught fire immediately after landing on the runway. While maneuvering to reach the terminal, it collided with a second aircraft which was crossing the taxiway at that moment.
