US approves arms sales to Italy

Preliminary green light to start negotiations to sign the purchase contract

The US State Department announced in the last few hours that it had approved the potential sale of various weapons systems to Italy. The approval of the American ministry is preparatory to the start of negotiations between the two countries, which could soon lead to the signing of a purchase contract.

In detail, the Pentagon stated that Rome has submitted to Washington a purchase request for 12 medium-range air-to-air missiles at an estimated cost of 69.3 million dollars; and 125 small-diameter bombs, including related equipment, at an estimated cost of 150 million dollars. In both cases, these are armaments produced by the American company RTX (the former Raytheon Technologies).
