Air China orders 100 C-919 aircraft
Twofold objective: to replace older vehicles and grow the fleet
The Chinese national carrier Air China has placed an order for the purchase of 100 C-919 aircraft produced by the national manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac). It is a single aisle plane designed for short and medium range routes capable of accommodating 150-190 passengers. Deliveries of the first aircraft are expected to take place in 2024 and finish in 2031.
It was announced by the management of the Chinese airline, in a document filed with the Beijing stock exchange dated April 26, 2024 and approved the following day by the airline's board of directors. The aim of this move is twofold: to replace the oldest aircraft and to increase the number of planes in the fleet, up to +7.5% of operational capacity compared to 2023.
Previously, Air China had ordered five C-919s. This aircraft will join the fleet of current narrow-body aircraft of the Chinese airline, which currently includes: 30 Airbus A-319/100, as well as 38 A-320/200, 53 A-320/200N, 61 A-321/ 200, 10 A-321/200N, 20 A-321/200NX, 17 Boeing B-737/700, 21 B-737 Max 8 and 88 B-737/800.
