Skyguide removes capacity restrictions at Geneva airport
Announced yesterday due to a technical issue, resolved within a few hours with a software update

As a precautionary measure, yesterday, June 2, 2025, Skyguide, the Swiss air traffic control service, announced a 20% reduction in the arrival capacity at Geneva Airport. A mere temporary safety measure, pending a solution to a "latent technical problem", a statement reported it, which emphasized: "In recent months, Skyguide has encountered seven malfunctions of a system that provides radar images to air traffic controllers. Consequently, individual workstations lost the radar image for a few seconds. This phenomenon mainly occurred in Geneva. The safety of air traffic was not compromised at any time. Therefore, as a temporary safety measure, Skyguide is reducing the arrival capacity at Geneva Airport by 20 percent until a solution to the problem is found".
The statement continued: "Skyguide has already taken measures to resolve the technical issue and will perform a system update in the coming days, first in Geneva and then in Zurich. Furthermore, a specially established task force is continuously analyzing the situation".
Today, the statement had a positive and unexpected update, albeit succinct: "Following a successful software update, the Swiss air traffic control lifted the capacity restriction at Geneva Airport at the start of the day".
