Alaska tests long-range radar useful for "Golden Dome Shield"

It can detect missile threats from Russia and China

On Monday, June 23, the Missile Defense Agency (MISA), along with the US Space Force (the branch of the US military responsible for space operations) and the US Northern Command (one of the Department of Defense's eleven joint command centers), tested a long-range radar at Clear Space Force Station in Alaska to detect missile threats from Russia or China. This system could be used as a sensor in the "Golden Dome Shield", the $175 billion space-based missile shield the Pentagon is developing as a defense system for the United States (see AVIONEWS).

The radar used in the test was built by Lockheed Martin, an American aerospace engineering company, and is part of the Ground-based midcourse defense (Gmdd) missile defense system. It is used to improve the effectiveness of interceptors in Alaska and California.
