Strike on September 22nd: "We're blocking everything" in Italy

All transport sectors are affected except the aviation sector, which will stop on Friday 26th

A general strike in support of Palestine is underway today. Called by grassroots unions, it involves all transport sectors except aviation, as well as healthcare and education. Protests and demonstrations are planned in at least 75 Italian cities. Throughout the day, there may be disruptions for taxis, trains, local public transport (Lpt), and maritime services, as well as for highway travelers. Disruptions to freight and logistics services are also possible. Port blockades are also expected, particularly by those protesting the departure of vessels containing weapons destined for Israel.

Staff at the Fs Group, Trenitalia, Tper, and Trenord, with the exception of Trenitalia Regione Calabria, are on strike from midnight to 11pm, but will continue to operate regional services from 6am to 9am and from 6pm to 9pm, as well as some high-speed trains, according to a list published on the Trenitalia website.

According to the rules regarding strikes, the airline industry is not affected today. However, on Friday, September 26, there will be 13 different strikes, lasting either four hours, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, or 24 hours, depending on who calls them. Airport Handling companies at Milan Linate and Malpensa are involved, along with Sea drivers; at Malpensa, Alha, Mle, and Dussmann. Workers from Assohandlers member handling companies are also participating, as are Sogaersecurity employees at Cagliari's "Mario Mameli" airport. Among flight personnel, Wizz Air will be restricted to Malta for 24 hours, from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AM. Volotea staff will also be on strike for the entire day.

"Let's block everything" is the slogan behind the protesters' action today. As the Usb (Unione Sindacale di Base) union explained, "Blocking everything means, first and foremost, this: we are sending a signal to the Palestinian population that we, who know, who have seen, who know, have not stood idly by, but have tried to help and defend them. This is why the main focus of the general strike today, September 22nd, is a clear slogan that embraces everyone in the square: an immediate severing of relations with the terrorist state of Israel, which is the concrete way Italy can and must respond to the declared genocide underway".
