Chile: MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter missing since yesterday located

The Chilean Air Force reports today: three of the four military personnel on board were uninjured, one fatality

The Chilean Air Force (Fach) MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter with which contact had been lost on the night of 16 October in the area of Campos de Hielo Sur, in the Aysén region of the Chilean Patagonia, was located this morning. The aircraft, assigned to the 9° Aviation Group, had taken off from Villa O'Higgins airport bound for Campos de Hielo Sur with four military personnel on board.

The SAR (Search and Rescue) system was activated immediately, and a rescue team composed of helicopters, fixed‑wing aircraft and Parasar personnel (tactical unit of the special forces, Utafe) was deployed. The helicopter was located this morning. Three of the four occupants were found alive, the Fach said in a statement; the fourth has died. The statement added: "The Chilean Air Force is also providing assistance and support to the families of our injured comrades".
