Flight operations suspended. The airport returned to operation at 12:00

PASSENGER ADVISORY - PASSENGER ADVISORY SACBO announces that flight operations at Milan Bergamo airport were suspended at 10:20 am due to an incident on the taxiway, the causes of which are being investigated by law enforcement. Air traffic resumed at 12:00.

This morning at Bergamo-Orio al Serio airport a man lost his life in a fatal accident that occurred on one of the airport's taxiways. Flight operations were suspended at 10:20am. Some connections were diverted to other airports, such as Bologna, Verona and Milan-Malpensa, while others were cancelled. The airport returned to normal operations at 12:00, as announced by the airport operator Sacbo.

The accident appears to have involved a Volotea Airbus A-319 aircraft headed to Asturias airport, Spain. Essentially, a man was sucked into one of the aircraft's engines, but it is unclear why and in what capacity he was present on the runway at the time of takeoff.

Emergency vehicles and firefighters intervened on site.
